After breakfast, drive to Marangu Gate for registration and start your ascent through lush rainforest. The shaded trail features ferns, moss‑covered trees, and the chance to see blue and colobus monkeys.
Reach Mandara Hut after around 4–5 hours of trekking. Optional afternoon walk to Maundi Crater offers splendid views of Mawenzi Peak if the weather is clear.

Continue through the last stretch of forest and into open moorland, where giant groundsels and lobelias thrive. Weather permitting, you'll glimpse both Kibo and Mawenzi peaks ahead.

DAY 3 : Horombo Hut – Mawenzi Hut (4,300 m) – Horombo Hut (3,720 m)

Vegetation Type: Alpine Moorland

A vital acclimatisation day. Trek east toward Mawenzi Hut across open terrain between giant lobelias. Pause for lunch at the base of Mawenzi Peak, enjoying its rugged spires, then return to Horombo Hut for a relaxed afternoon and evening.
This "hike high, sleep low" approach prepares you perfectly for reaching the summit.

Today's route climbs steadily toward the Saddle, a vast, otherworldly expanse between Mawenzi and Kibo peaks. The air becomes noticeably thinner as you approach Kibo Hut, built of stone blocks on barren volcanic soil.
Rest early, hydrate well, and prepare for the final summit push beginning just before midnight.

Wake around 23:00 for tea and biscuits, then begin your final ascent under starlight. The route climbs steeply past Hans Meyer Cave to Gillman's Point (5,685 m). From there, follow the crater rim to Uhuru Peak, Africa's highest point.
After photos and celebration, descend carefully via Kibo Hut for lunch, then continue down to Horombo Hut for the night.
