ITINERARY

Day 0: Arrival in Arusha

On arrival at Kilimanjaro International Airport (JRO) or Arusha Airport (ARK), meet our representative and transfer to Planet Lodge in Arusha.
Later, our mountain coordinator will brief you on your climb and check equipment. Spend the evening relaxing at the lodge, enjoying the gardens, fresh air, and lodge facilities.

DAY 1 : Londorossi Gate (2,100 m) – Mti Mkubwa Camp (2,820 m)

Vegetation Type: Montane Forest

After breakfast, drive to Londorossi Gate for registration before continuing by 4×4 to the Lemosho Glades. Begin your trek through the lush forest alive with colobus monkeys and exotic birds. Trekking is steady and unhurried, ideal for adapting gradually.
Reach Mti Mkubwa Camp "Big Tree Camp" for dinner and overnight amid giant fig trees and mountain sounds.

DAY 2 : Mti Mkubwa Camp – Shira Camp 1 (3,500 m)

Vegetation Type: Heath Zone & Moorland

Climb gradually from forest to heathland, gaining dramatic views of rolling valleys and rising volcanic ridges. You enter the Shira Plateau region with its wide‑open landscapes and alpine vegetation. Reach Shira Camp 1 by afternoon and enjoy stunning west‑ridge panoramas as the sun dips behind the mountain.

DAY 3 : Shira Camp 1 – Shira 2 – Moir Camp (4,200 m)

Vegetation Type: Moorland Plateau

A longer day traversing the breathtaking Shira Plateau, a volcanic plain surrounded by ridges. Stop for lunch at Shira Camp 2 before continuing toward Moir Camp, tucked against lava ridges. Excellent acclimatisation day with stunning landscapes for photographers.

DAY 4 : Moir Hut – Lava Tower (4,600 m) – Barranco Camp (3,900 m)

Vegetation Type: Alpine Desert / Semi‑Desert

Climb steadily to the dramatic Lava Tower, pausing for lunch amid lunar‑like scenery before descending to Barranco Camp beneath the towering Breach Wall. The "climb high, sleep low" routine aids acclimatisation and rewards you with sweeping views.

DAY 5 : Barranco Camp – Karanga Camp (4,050 m)

Vegetation Type: Alpine Desert

Start early to scale the Great Barranco Wall—steep but great fun and incredibly scenic. From the top, enjoy breathtaking views before traversing short ridges and valleys to Karanga Camp. Afternoon at leisure for rest and gradual altitude adjustment.

DAY 6 : Karanga Camp – Barafu Camp (4,680 m)

Vegetation Type: Alpine Desert

Ascend gradually through barren, volcanic slopes toward Barafu Camp, meaning "ice" in Swahili. Perched on a narrow ridge buffeted by winds, this camp marks your summit base. Eat early, prepare gear, and rest well ahead of the midnight climb.

DAY 7 : SUMMIT ATTEMPT – Barafu Camp (4,680 m) – Uhuru Peak (5,895 m) – Mweka Camp (3,100 m)

Hiking Time: 6–8 hrs Ascent, 5–7 hrs Descent
Vegetation Type: Stone Scree / Ice‑Capped Summit

Around 23:30, arise to hot tea and biscuits, then start your final climb beneath a sky full of stars. The trek to Stella Point is tough yet unforgettable, and reaching Uhuru Peak at sunrise crowns your Kilimanjaro adventure.
Celebrate briefly, then descend to Barafu for rest, before continuing to Mweka Camp through changing vegetation zones.

DAY 8: Mweka Camp – Mweka Gate (1,640 m) – Arusha

Vegetation Type: Montane Forest

After breakfast, descend gently through lush rainforest to Mweka Gate. Here, collect your summit certificates—gold for Uhuru Peak achievers and transfer back to Arusha for hot showers, a celebratory drink, and well‑earned rest at Planet Lodge.
