Passport Requirements

  • Your passport must be valid for at least six months from your date of entry into Tanzania.
  • It should have at least two blank pages for visa stamps.
  • Always carry a digital and printed copy of your passport for backup in case it's misplaced.

Visa Information

Most travelers visiting Tanzania  unless from a visa‑exempt country require a visa to enter. Fortunately, it's a simple process.

1. Electronic Visa (E‑Visa):
The Tanzania Immigration Services Department provides an online visa application platform where you can apply in advance. Processing typically takes 5–10 business days, and your confirmation is sent via email. Apply here: https://eservices.immigration.go.tz/visa

2. Visa on Arrival:
Available at major entry points, including Kilimanjaro International Airport (JRO)Dar es Salaam International Airport (DAR), and Zanzibar Abeid Amani Karume Airport (ZNZ). Fees are paid in US dollars generally USD 50 for most nationalities or USD 100 for US citizens. Expect brief processing times upon arrival.

3. Eligible Nationalities:
Travelers from East African Community (EAC) countries do not require a visa. Citizens from some other nations may also be exempt always verify with the Tanzanian Immigration website or your nearest embassy before travel.

Types of Visas

  • Single‑Entry Visa: Valid for travel up to 90 days; ideal for most tourists.
  • Multiple‑Entry Visa: For travelers who plan to enter Tanzania several times within a year.
  • Transit Visa: For connecting travelers spending less than seven days in the country en route to another destination.
  • East Africa Tourist Visa: Valid for entry into Tanzania, Kenya, and Uganda on one combined visa (check eligibility before applying).

Arrival and Immigration Tips

  • Have your return flight ticket and printed accommodation confirmation ready when arriving immigration officers may ask to see them.
