Yellow Fever & Health Requirements for Travelers

Stay Healthy, Travel Confidently

Preparing for your Tanzanian safari includes more than packing the right clothes it's also about ensuring you're healthy and fully ready for adventure. To make your journey safe and seamless, Serengeti Lusa Safaris provides the latest guidance on vaccinations, health requirements, and smart travel precautions.

Yellow Fever Vaccination Requirements

  • Who Needs It:
Tanzania does not require the Yellow Fever vaccine for travelers arriving directly from countries that are not at risk of the disease (such as most of Europe, North America, Australia, and Asia).

However, the vaccine is required for travelers arriving from or transiting through an area where Yellow Fever is reported even if just for a short airport connection (over 12 hours). This includes certain countries in South America, the Caribbean, Central America, and Sub‑Saharan Africa.

  • Proof of Vaccination:
Travelers who need the vaccine must present a valid Yellow Fever Vaccination Certificate at immigration upon arrival. It becomes valid 10 days after vaccination and remains valid for life as per WHO guidelines.

Recommended Vaccinations & Health Tips

Beyond the Yellow Fever certificate, several other vaccines and health precautions are recommended for safaris and tropical travel:

  • Routine Vaccines: Ensure standard immunizations (such as measles, mumps, rubella; diphtheria, tetanus, pertussis; polio; and influenza) are up to date.
  • Recommended Vaccines: Hepatitis ATyphoid, and Tetanus booster are commonly advised.
  • Malaria Prevention:
    • Tanzania is a malaria zone, so speak with your doctor about the right prophylactic medication.
    • Use mosquito repellent, wear long sleeves in the evenings, and sleep under the provided mosquito nets in lodges or camps.
  • Safe Water & Food: Drink only bottled or filtered water, and enjoy freshly cooked meals many lodges maintain excellent hygiene standards.
  • Travel Clinics: Visit a certified travel clinic at least 4–6 weeks before departure to discuss your individual itinerary and needs.

COVID‑19 & General Health Guidelines

Tanzania has relaxed most COVID‑19 entry measures, but it's best to check the latest requirements before traveling. Travelers should also consider comprehensive travel insurance with emergency medical coverage and evacuation benefits.

At Serengeti Lusa Safaris, your safety and well‑being come first. We stay updated on all official health regulations and provide pre‑trip advice so you can arrive fully prepared, healthy, and ready to explore.

A healthy traveler is a happy traveler and every unforgettable journey begins with peace of mind.
